Ella Grace
Ella trained at the London School of Musical Theatre and went on to front rock band Hitchcock Blonde for four years. She now writes for theatre, and wrote music & lyrics for pop/rock musical Trouble, which was presented at the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival. She was a finalist of the 2014 Perfect Pitch Awards and is subsequently under commission with Perfect Pitch and The New Wolsey Theatre to write a new musical.
In 2015, Ella wrote music & lyrics for King Athelstan as part of the Rose Theatre Kingston’s Festival of Stories, and was a finalist in the RCS’s A Song for Shakespeare competition.
In 2016, Ella was selected for China Plate, House Theatre and The Musical Theatre Network’s inaugural Musical Theatre Darkroom, and from this has partnered with Look Left, Look Right’s Katie Lyons to write an immersive musical, Blackout, which is being developed by Harlow Playhouse, The Seagull and China Plate Theatre.
Most recently, she’s been commissioned to write songs for Contender Charlie’s UK tour of Romeo and Juliet, and songs for Oscar Wilde’s Salome, which played at the Walt Disney Modular Theatre, Los Angeles.
On-going projects include; Nethergate, a modern re-imagining of Peter Pan, which was presented at BEAM 2016 and workshopped with Scottish Youth Theatre; Ophelia, an adaptation of Hamlet; and Billy Binns, a new actor-musician musical.
Ella is an associate artist of Harlow Playhouse and recent recipient of the Michael Grandage Futures Bursary.
